The prime minister of India has issued a warning to those vandalising public statues.
Narendra Modi has asked authorities to take stern action on the matter, a day after workers from his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled down a statue of Vladimir Lenin in Tripura state.
Statues of a Hindu nationalist in West Bengal state and a social reformer in Tamil Nadu state have also been vandalised.
The incidents have given rise to increased tensions and some clashes in parts of the country.
