A landmark bill was passed in Pakistan that will provide legal status for Sikh marriages.
The Punjab National Assembly unanimously passed the Sikhs Anand Karaj Marriages Act 2017. It will come into force immediately when approved by the governor, with every Sikh marriage that took place before the bill came into force also gaining legal status.
Provincial Minister Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora said Pakistan will be ‘the only country in the world’ that registers Sikh marriages, once the bill is approved.
