An Indian man has been arrested after trying to impersonate a pensioner at Indira Gandhi International Airport
32-year-old Jayesh Patel was arrested on Sunday and handed over to immigration authorities after planning to enter the United States dressed as an 80-year-old man.
Patel dressed himself in a white tunic and turban, as well as wearing large glasses and dying his beard white, and sought to pass through security and immigration checks in a wheelchair.
When asked for documentation, he showed a passport marked with the named Amrik Singh, and stated his date of birth as 1 February 1938.
Indian police later explained that Patel had hired an agent – who arranged his costume and make-up – to get him a passport and US Visa.
Speaking on the incident police officer Sanjay Bhatia said: "He was planning to go to the US for a job. But his profile was such that he would not have gotten a visa easily.”
