Pakistan news sources report that India has responded positively to an offer of peace talks.
Indian foreign minister and Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi have sent replies to their Pakistani counterparts Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Imran Khan respectively.
The Indian government said that it is ready to play a role in maintaining regional peace.
The letters come on the heels of the first face-to-face interaction between the prime ministers last week, with Kahn and Modi shaking hands on the sidelines of the 19th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek.
