India on brink of ‘worst water crisis’

A government thinktank in India claims the country is on the brink of its worst-ever water crisis.

The Niti Aayog report outlines that 600 million people could be facing acute water shortage, with warnings that 21 cities are likely to run out of groundwater by 2020 despite increasing demand.

Food security is also threatened as 80% of water used is in agriculture.
