India government minister killed in ‘Maoist’ attack

A minister of the ruling BJP in India has been killed in an attack by alleged Maoists.

Police say Bheema Mandavi, 40, and at least four security personnel were killed in an ambush on an election campaign convoy in Chhattisgarh state.

Mandavi was the state MP for Dantewada, which has seen Maoist violence for decades.

The attack came two days before voting begins in India’s general election.
