India claims to have launched air strikes against militants in Pakistani territory.
India’s foreign secretary told a news conference that the strikes had killed a "large number" of militants, including commanders, and had avoided civilian casualties.
It is claimed a training camp of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group was targeted in Balakot. The group claimed responsibility for a suicide attack in the disputed region of Kashmir, which killed more than 40 Indian paramilitary soldiers.
Pakistan condemned the attack and said it scrambled fighter jets in response. The nation added that it would respond "at the time and place of its choosing".
