India has introduced the death penalty for people convicted of raping a child.
India's cabinet made the change to the country's penal code following several high-profile cases. It will see capital punishment handed out to those guilty of raping a child under the age of 12.
Reported rapes of minors had more than doubled in India between 2012 to 2016 and nation-wide protests have put pressure on the government, which has been accused of not doing enough to prevent cases of sexual assault.
