Businessman behind fake flight hijack arrested in Hyderabad

A businessman in Hyderabad has been arrested for sending a fake hijack threat email to Mumbai police.

The man, identified as M Vamshi Krishna, sent the email on the 15 April, causing a heightened level of security at airports in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai.

The 32-year-old has claimed that he sent the email because he wanted his "girlfriend" to postpone a proposed trip to Mumbai and Goa.

Vamshi recently grew close to a Chennai-based woman through Facebook but did not have enough funds for the trip and created a fake flight ticket from Chennai to Mumbai in her name, which he emailed it to her. It is believed he then sent the hijack threat email so that she would not have the opportunity to use the fake ticket.
