The Bangladesh government has banned fishing around its coast for 65 days in a bid to address depleting fish stocks.
Coastguards are enforcing the ban, which covers all types of fishing vessel.
Protests are being planned by thousands of fishermen, who argue the move will leave them without a source of income.
The ban - lasting from 20 May until 23 July - is timed to occur with the breeding season and the government claims it may become an annual occurrence.
