A mother who stood up to daughter’s sex pest set on fire in Mumbai

A mother who stood up against a sexual predator who harassed her daughter was set on fire in Mumbai.

Amravati Harijan is currently fighting for her life at Masina Hospital with 94 per cent burns.

Deepak Jeth allegedly poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. According to police, the suspect stalked Amravati's daughter, even after repeated attempts were made by her to stop him.

Allegedly the daughter was sitting outside of her house when the suspect poured petrol on her. She ran away and washed the fuel off her clothes but on her return found her mother, a family friend and her two-year-old daughter on fire.

Doctors say Amravati may need skin donation for grafting, in order to make a full recovery.

Jeth has been arrested by Bandra police and charged with attempt to murder.
