Police in India have discovered a 50kg landmine under a bridge in Odisha state.
The Hindustan Times reports that the explosives were found in the Gajapati district, an area that witnesses attacks by Maoist militants.
An official claimed the mine was planted in an attempt to disrupt the process for India’s general election.
The discovery comes after Bheema Mandavi, an MP from the ruling BJP, and at least four security personnel were killed in an ambush on an election campaign convoy in Chhattisgarh state.
