26 killed in Indian power plant explosion

    At least 26 people have been killed in an explosion at a power plant in India.

    As many as 100 other people were injured in the blast near to the town of Unchahar in north India's Uttar Pradesh state.

    The government-owned plant operator of the coal-powered station, National Thermal Power Corporation, said there had been a "sudden abnormal sound" and an escape of gases and steam before the explosion.

    The owner has launched an investigation into the blast.
