21 killed in roadside bomb blast targeting Senate Deputy Chairman in Pakistan

At least 21 people have been killed by a roadside bomb blast which targeted a convoy of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, the deputy-chairman and the secretary-general of Jamiat Ulema Islam, in Pakistan.

The explosion took place in the town of Mastung when the convoy were returning from an event.

Haideri claims he is safe but was injured in the attack.

The area was cordoned off by security officials and the injured were taken to Mastung Civil Hospital for treatment, with those in a critical condition transferred to the larger city, Quetta.

Initial details suggest it was a suicide attack.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the incident and expressed his concern for the well-being of Maulana Haideri and his deep sorrow for the lives lost.
