Family of Sheffield murder victim still need answers on two year anniversary

The family of murder victim Kavan Brissett have urged those with information to come forward with the answers they so desperately need, two years on since the 21-year-old was fatally stabbed in Sheffield.

In a statement released yesterday they said: “It’s been two years since our beautiful Kav was stabbed. It saddens us that we must do a statement once again to try and get our boy the justice he deserves. This weighs very heavily on us as we try to put together our broken hearts so that we can live for him, although every day is still unbelievably difficult, and it still only feels like yesterday.

“We really hoped that he would have the justice he deserves by now, but unfortunately that is not the case. The turmoil we feel from not getting any justice for him adds to the grief we feel and know he himself is not resting how he should be.

“Kavan was just beautiful inside and out, he was polite and caring with the biggest heart and smile that anybody who met him would remember. He made the dullest times brighter just for being him. We really appreciate all the love everybody has shown over these two years, all his friends loved him just as much as us and we all live in hope that those responsible for taking away our angel will pay for their actions.

“So, I ask anybody who might have been in the Langsett area of Sheffield and remember the 14 August 2018, to come forward and give the police something they might not already know. It doesn’t matter how insignificant you think it is because it may be very important to the police, so please contact them.

“Our lives have changed forever without our Kav, so please help and allow us to put our beautiful Kavan to rest and give us some closure. We all deserve this.”

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Jude Ashmore is today re-appealing for information on the whereabouts of wanted man Ahmed Farrah, as Kavan’s loved ones continue to live through ‘every family’s worst nightmare’.

A £5,000 reward remains on offer from independent charity Crimestoppers for information on Farrah’s whereabouts.

Kavan was stabbed in the chest during an altercation near to Langsett Walk, Sheffield, on 14 August 2018. He was taken to hospital but sadly died four days later (18 August) as a result of his injuries.

A dedicated team of officers continues to work tirelessly to ensure the person responsible for Kavan’s death will be brought to justice, allowing his family to begin to move on with their lives.

DCI Ashmore said: “Kavan’s loved ones have been through every family’s worst nightmare. Two years on from his tragic death, they still do not have the answers they so desperately need. Kavan was a son, a brother, a nephew and a friend. My team and I keep all the people who have suffered because of this loss at the forefront of our minds as we continue to work on this investigation.

“I am certain there are people out there who have information on Farrah’s whereabouts. I would like to appeal to those people to get in touch with us, and remind you that you could actually be committing an offence if you have been letting him stay with you, knowing he is wanted.

“If you have information and haven’t yet come forward, please think of Kavan’s family and friends. They have suffered two years of not knowing, two years of hoping that justice will be done for Kavan, and they need answers. Please do the right thing, get in touch and tell us what you know.

“There is also a chance Farrah may have left the country. Checks have been carried out with the relevant agencies and authorities, however we are keeping an open mind around this and continue to be led where the evidence takes us’

“I understand you may feel uncomfortable speaking directly to the police. You can contact Crimestoppers anonymously and tell them what you know – by doing this there will be no way of us being able to trace where any information passed to us has come from.”

DCI Ashmore added: “Have you seen Farrah in the past two years? Do you know where he is? Do you know who he is staying with?

“Please contact us on one of the methods below, or if you don’t feel comfortable talking to police, you can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously. Thank you.”

If you see Farrah, please call 999 straight away. If you have any other information about where he might be, or relating to Kavan’s death, please call either 101 quoting incident number 827 of 14 August 2018 or speak directly to officers in the incident room on 01709 443507.

To provide information to Crimestoppers anonymously, please call 0800 555 111. You can read more information in relation to the reward on their website – crimestoppers-uk.org.
