Bury Man Pleads Guilty To Providing Illegal Immigration Advice And Services

Unqualified immigration adviser pleads guilty to 3 charges of providing unqualified immigration advice.

Leonard Macdonald Kachingwe, 41, of Woodman Drive, Bury, Lancashire, pleaded guilty at Bury Magistrates’ Court on 9 August 2016, to 3 charges of providing unqualified immigration advice or services between September 2014 and January 2016.

Mr Kachingwe operated from his home address and provided immigration advice and services to 2 clients in the South East of England and 1 in the North East. Mr Kachingwe had previously been a regulated adviser and therefore clearly understood that his conduct was illegal.

He was sentenced to a 12 month Community Order and 100 hours of unpaid work. Compensation Orders to the victims were made in the sum of £3,600.

Speaking about the decision, the Deputy Immigration Services Commissioner, Dr Ian Leigh, said:

“The OISC is here to ensure that people seeking immigration advice are treated fairly by people they can trust. Mr. Kachingwe chose to operate outside the law, and without regard for the protection of his clients.

“I am delighted with the outcome of this case, and I hope it sends a clear message to other people considering providing immigration advice and services.”
