Over 500 Cars Seized With 2,200 FPNs Issued In Bradford South

Bradford South's Road Policing Unit has been tackling traffic offences in the city for six months. The team formed in October last year and this week marks six months since they began.

In that time they have seized 535 vehicles, issued over 2,200 fixed penalty notices and attended 43 days of action working with colleagues from Neighbourhood Policing Teams. Over the past six months they've also worked with West Yorkshire Trading Standards, Bradford Council, VOSA, DVLA, Driver Standards Agency and HM Revenue & Customs.

Inspector Dorian James - who leads the team - said: "Bradford always makes the headlines in relation to uninsured drivers and general driving standards. I hope it's some reassurance to law abiding citizens that, in the last six months, we have taken over five hundred vehicles off drivers who didn't have insurance or didn't have a driving licence. Every day, Road Policing Officers patrol various areas of Bradford in marked and unmarked Police cars and regularly stop motorists for a variety of offences including not wearing seatbelts, using handheld mobile phones whilst driving and speeding. I wish drivers would realise that they are risking their lives and the lives of their passengers and innocent members of the public. Part of our job is dealing with serious and sometimes fatal car accidents so we see, only too often, the consequences of dangerous driving.

Our aim is to create a secure environment where people can travel within the law and with confidence, free from the fear of injury, death or damage.

We want the fear to be back with those driving illegally - they won't know we're around until we stop them and take their vehicle away."
