Warning As Thefts From Roadworks Endanger Lives
 

 

Bradford Council and the Police are warning that people stealing items from roadworks are endangering lives.
 
 
Several ironwork objects, including manhole and gulley covers, aluminium street name plates and an electricity switching box have been stolen in the last week from roads across the south and west of Bradford.
 
 
Removing these objects has the potential to cause a major safety hazard.
 
 
Anyone who sees such items being removed should report it tothe Police immediately and if possible give a description of the offender's vehicle and registration. number. If people see an exposed gulley or manhole cover they can report it to the Council on 01274 431000 so they can make it safe.
 
 
Darren Badrock, Principal Engineer in the Council's Major Maintenance, said: "Removing these objects creates a real danger to the public and anyone thinking of doing this should consider the consequences."
 
 
Inspector Osman Khan of Tong & Wyke Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Not only is this theft but the people who are stealing these covers are potentially endangering the lives of people in that area. I would ask anyone who has any information about the thefts to contact us on 01274 376625."
