Arson ruled out in fatal house fire investigation

Detectives investigating a blaze at a Bradford home which claimed the life of a baby girl have ruled out arson as the cause of the fire.

Five week old Zara Ahmed had been asleep in her bedroom when the fire engulfed the property in Sandford Road, Barkerend on Friday.

Her mother, Zeenat Begum was able to manage to rescue her three year old brother Mujahid but could not save Zara.

The baby girl’s body was carried out of the house by firefighters.

Mujahid is currently being treated at the specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

West Yorkshire Police said, following a joint investigation with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, that the cause of the fire was not thought to be suspicious.

The children’s uncle, 19 year old Mohammed Auzer who was trapped in the attic was alerted by screams coming from the first floor of the burning building.

But as he tried to go downstairs, he was held back by the flames and smoke. Mr Auzer alerted the emergency services and was later rescued from the attic bedroom.

The children’s mother suffered minor injuries and was treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
